For years the residents of Black Rock Acres have expressed their concern for families that had to deal with potholes, dust, and speeding on the 1.0 mile of county road in Fort Defiance, AZ. Before the Shepherd Administration, the road was built up with dirt and gravel that needed constant maintenance for school buses to travel safely on. The damaged road was a result of poor drainage and vehicles driving at high speeds. With help, Apache County District 2 completed C-273 road project by chip sealing, building a better drainage outlet, and installing speed bumps on the county school bus route.
Apache County District 2 held a drone training which was appreciatively conducted by Dart Drones at our yard in Sawmill, AZ. A few District 2 employees and other partnering entities on the Navajo Nation attended in hopes to advance our knowledge in the growing world of drone technology. Road maintenance is definitely in need of more efficiency when it comes to the safety of our school bus routes. Because Apache County District 2 graders are equipped with RDO Integrated Controls, drones are a perfect tool to enhance roadway mapping and inspections for GPS.
Fort Defiance, AZ - District 2 hosted a Veterans Day event for those who served and are currently serving our nation among the military. Honorable Larry Anderson of the USMC & Vietnam Veteran led the gourd dance and Ramone Yazzie was the headsinger at the District 2 road yard. Other special guests and senior citizens attended to show their appreciation and support for our veterans November 8, 2018.
Honorable Doug Ducey, Arizona Governor accompanied by Steve Smith, Arizona State Senate and T.J. Shope, Speaker Pro Tempore, Arizona State Representative were welcomed June 1, 2018 to the Navajo Nation for the Arizona Bill Signing Ceremony at the Window Rock Council Chambers and the Navajo Nation Museum for the show casing of the Treaty of 1868. Supervisor Shepherd was among the other Apache County Supervisors and Council Delegates during the signing of the Native American Coding Bill, the AZ POST Amber Alert Bill, the TPT Coal Tax Bill, and the Dine College Agreement at the council chambers.
